Event Highlights 2017

The best moments of EMART Energy 2017 in Amsterdam!

This year for the first time co-located with European Utility Week, we saw a record-breaking number of attendees through the door.

The first day of EMART kicked off with a packed Opening Keynote, in which Oliver Koch, Deputy Head of Wholesale Markets, Electricity & Gas for DG Energy - European Commission, noted the importance of fostering flexibility and Mark Belloni, Managing Director of Energy Trade at Eneco Group, outlined the future of an increasingly volatile market. Marcel Galjee, Director Energy of AkzoNobel, shared that "Decarbonisation with electrification is the key."

Day 1 also featured crowded Hub Sessions on the exhibition floor — including "The basics of energy trading (for non-traders)" and "The Value of Flexibility" - an Energy price drivers session, and an interesting debate on the consequences of Brexit for the trading world.

Day 2 included amongst others an impressive turnout at the Hub Sessions on the exhibition floor and a jam-packed Conference Session on the Future of Energy Trading.

Day 2 of EMART Energy 2017 featured a well-attended Blockchain Trading Session at the EMART Hub Theatre with Enerchain, proving the concept of peer-to-peer trading in the wholesale energy market. There were live trades between buyers and sellers, located in their trading rooms and executed in front of the public by a.o. Neas Energy, Wien Energie, E.ON and Enel.

Dedicated CIED Session: It was great to see more than 60 large energy consumers represented at the dedicated Commercial and Industrial Energy user Days (CIED) session featuring Royal VEMW, KPN, Liberty Global and Air Products!

And at the end of the day, we attended the Traders' Pub! Gold Sponsor National Grid Interconnectors hosted its networking event for EMART Energy Conference Pass holders, where delegates gathered for beers, bites and business! It was good fun!

It's a wrap! We were really glad at the end of the event, realising how successful the three of trading talks, business and valuable networking moments were!

In its first year as a co-located event with European Utility Week, EMART Energy's 2017 edition saw a 10% increase in attendees and a successful launch of Commercial and Industrial Energy user Days (CIED), with 70+ high-level representatives from the energy-intensive industry.

It was also great to see the positive effects that new sessions such as The Future of Trading had on the market.

Thank you to all who contributed to the success of this year's event!
