EMART Energy 2011

Guidelines

We actively encourage our speakers to think of novel ways to present their messages. We promote the use of pictures, videos, anecdotes, stories and creativity to best convey your message. We encourage you to consider the core message you wish to convey, core points that you wish to cover and then consider innovative ways to structure your presentation. Try to be different, engaging and entertaining. Consider the following when planning and assembling your presentation - these basics have been proven to dramatically increase the effectiveness of your power point presentation:

• Always consider how you can replace words with pictures that conceptualise your message
• Include only the necessary information
• Too many power point slides will loose your audience
• Generally no more than 6 words a line on a power point slide
• Generally no more than 6 lines a power point slide
• Avoid long sentences
• Avoid complex diagrams that require excessive explanation

Presentations should comply with the following general requirements:

• Reflect new information or new developments
• Deliver a specific viewpoint- it is preferred for your presentation not to be too general
• The presentation should not have been presented at any other event, unless it contains new information
and has been adapted for the audience.

Creativity & Interaction
Try to involve your audience in your presentation, interaction creates discussion!
Liven up your presentation by using anecdotes, slides, photos and videos that make the ideas and stories more tangible.

Audiovisual equipment
The conference room will be equipped with:
• Conference laptop
• Data projector
• Screen
• Lapel microphone for speaker/moderator
• Stage with lectern and microphone for speaker
• Handheld microphones

If you need any additional audiovisual equipment please contact the conference management. AV technicians will be available each day to upload presentations on the conference laptop and assist speakers with technical issues.

Time keeping
Each speaker has 20/25 minutes for his/her presentation, with 5 minutes allocated to questions from the audience. When you are preparing your talk, we suggest you plan for a presentation time of 15/20 minutes (maximum of 12 slides); this will give the chairman enough time to introduce you. Please ensure that your presentation does not run over the time allocated.

No sales pitches
Conferences are fore education, not sales pitches. The biggest complaint we get is that a speaker spent the session talking about commercial products instead of educating the audience.
